Star Acrostic Criteria

  • Use acrostic card. Pieces of paper won't do the job.
  • The star student's name is PRINTED vertically in large, outlined letters. The student's name must be correctly spelled. (Outline the letters of the name with a black, felt-tip pen.)
  • Each letter of the child's name should begin a complimentary ADJECTIVE. Use our Adjective List, or a dictionary or thesaurus. Avoid "nice," and ordinary words. Use interesting words. DO NOT USE SLANG WORDS SUCH AS "COOL"!
  • Do not use a phrase. Use one adjective.
  • Check spelling. Misspelled words will prompt a "re-do."
  • The acrostic should be neat, fully colored, and imaginative.  White backgrounds are only allowed when it is a wonderful and essential component of the acrostic design.
  • Use pencil to BEGIN the project, but the final acrostic should not be left in pencil. Go over all pencil marks with a marker. Erase stray marks. Do this BEFORE coloring.
  • Colors--felt-tip markers. "Highlighter colors" for backgrounds.  Remember to outline name letters with black marker or permanent black pen. No crayons.

Good Work Criteria:

  • All directions followed and the acrostic is ON TIME, neat, accurate, colorful, and interesting.
